Pax guided his handler faithfully for over ten years. Guide dogs make it possible for their handlers to travel safely with independence, freedom and dignity. I now go to a happier vet on the East side. This manual is dedicated to the memory of Pax, a devoted guide dog, and to all the handler and dog teams working together across the nation. I now go to a happier vet on the East side. It is not right that we have to pay for a service, that we do not get. I need every penny I have, but I also try to do what's best for my dog. I do not know how that exam was necessary for the problem that I took my dog in for. I have never received a call from anyone. I called and asked if they gave an okay on the eyes in error of one of the other 'external' body parts examined, perhaps something that needs attention, you know, like the things I can't see, heart, gastrointestinal, etc ).

One thing that I do know, is that, I could see that she had cataracts. What pissed me off is the external exam ($71.50, my money wasted ) stated that her eyes were bright and clear ( not true, she did NOT have bright clear eyes, she had cataracts )! I was sent home with a print out of the exam as well as medication for her ear. It was upsetting to me that I was told that I also had to have the external exam, money spent that was not necessary! My funds are very limited but I didn't want to see my dog in pain anymore. I was under the impression that I definitely needed one, or the dog wasn't going to be seen ( my first time, i didn't know better ). She did an external exam (which the receptionist wouldn't take, " no, I don't want one ", from me at all ). Ruth Sims because my dog had an ear infection. I suggest all of you may want to check pricing between reputable clinics - I am confident you will find other options that do not gouge. They were indifferent.ĭecision was easy to make. I asked Frontier if they were willing to lose ALL my business over this pricing difference. I assured them that the two other clinics I called were highly reputable clinics used by friends that also had very expensive hunting dogs (they would not use a shady/shoddy clinic for their $10,000 + dogs. The manager there was unwilling and made a point of telling me how much "better" they are compared to other Saskatoon vet clinics. I called back to Frontier to inform them of the price disparity and gave them the opportunity to be competitive. One clinic was $325, the other was $375.00. Both buddies use two other very reputable vet clinics in Saskatoon.

I called two of my hunting buddies who also have similarly valued hunting Springer Spaniels to get their opinion on this price. I bought her from a professional trainer in Kansas. My newest Springer Spaniel bitch ($12,000 fully trained gun dog) is 3.5 years old. I spend around $4000 per year on my dogs. 2 are pets (German Shepherd & Chocolate lab) and 2 working dogs (Springer Spaniels).
